Aquarium water analysisThe water test JBL Pro Aquatest GH (total hardness) determines the total hardness in your aquarium. In the freshwater aquarium the value should be between 5,0 and max. 20,0 °dGH.
The total hardness in the aquarium is mainly composed of various so-called alkaline earth salts, i.e. mostly calcium and magnesium ions. Stones and also gravel or sand in the aquarium can release these salts and ultimately determine the overall hardness. The goal (depending on the needs of the inhabitants) is a moderate total hardness value between 5 and 15, up to a max. of 20/25 °dGH. In addition, you should lower the total hardness by changing the water or treated water (e.g. osmosis water).
Our Tip
If you only replenish evaporated water in the aquarium with tap water, the total hardness (GH) will continue to rise, because the evaporation leaves the salts responsible for the total hardness in the Aquarium. It is always better to change the water regularly ...
