Often the water parameters will only measured when problems with the shrimp, aquatic plants, or algae occur. A cleanup of the parameter is then usually difficult and a counter-control is not always easy. In order to be able to intervene in time when irregularities, is a regular monitoring of advantage.

The most important water parameters include not only the pH value, total and carbonate hardness and the nitrite value (NO2), especial when aquascaping the measurement of nitrate (NO3), phosphate (PO 4), potassium (K) and iron (Fe). Aquatic plants need essential nutrients for healthy growth and show otherwise quickly deficiency symptoms, such as yellow leaves on the shoot tips.

If one has measured the water parameters in the Aquarium, should be according to the species and requirements fertilizing appropriate nutrients. The decision which shrimp species you can keep, quickly decides on the measurement of pH, and total and carbonate hardness.

If the Biology in the Aquarium works already, that whether the bacteria with the degradation of contaminants have started after the startup can be measured well using the nitrite value (NO2).
