Tropica’s 1-2 Grow! plants come straight from the laboratory and are cultivated under sterile conditions. This ensures they are free of algae, snails, parasites, and other unwanted organisms. Shrimp keepers and aquarists with sensitive fish species in particular benefit from this clean and safe plant quality. After rinsing off the nutrient solution, the plant can be placed directly into the aquarium—no prior soaking is necessary.
The 1-2 Grow! plants are already cultivated in their submerged form and can therefore quickly adapt to the aquarium after being placed in it. Unlike many conventional potted plants, there is no need for the time-consuming transition from emersed to submerged conditions, creating optimal conditions for rapid growth.
Microsorum pteropus ‘Narrow’ is a particularly elegant variety of the popular Java fern, distinguished by its narrow, elongated leaves, which give it a delicate yet modern appearance. Compared to the classic form, this cultivated variety has significantly narrower leaf blades, making it ideal for detailed aquascapes and natural-looking underwater landscapes. The dark green leaves create attractive contrasts with fine-leaved stem plants and provide a natural sense of depth in the aquarium.
As a robust epiphyte, Microsorum pteropus ‘Narrow’ is best cultivated on roots, rocks, or other decorative elements. There, it develops a strong rhizome over time and adheres securely to the hardscape. The rhizome should not be buried in the substrate, as this can damage the plant. Thanks to its slow growth, the plant retains its shape for a long time and requires very little care, making it ideal for aquariums with long-lasting, attractive layouts.
The plant thrives even under low to moderate lighting and does not require additional CO₂ fertilization; however, it exhibits even more compact and vigorous growth when provided with optimal nutrients. Due to its low-maintenance nature, it is ideal for beginners, but is also valued by experienced aquascapers for its versatile design possibilities. Its firm leaves are avoided by many herbivorous fish species, making it a long-lived and low-maintenance choice for nearly any freshwater aquarium.
