Microsorum pteropus ‘Windeløv’ is a particularly attractive cultivar of the well-known Java fern and is one of the most popular epiphytic plants in modern aquariums. It is characterized by its finely branched, almost pointed leaf tips, which give the plant an exceptionally delicate and decorative appearance. As a result, it adds elegant accents to both classic community aquariums and sophisticated aquascapes, creating natural structures within the layout.

This hardy aquarium plant grows slowly and reaches a height of about 10 to 20 cm. It is ideal for attaching to roots, rocks, or other decorative elements. The rhizome should not be buried in the substrate, as this can lead to rot. Using a bit of twine, plant glue, or fishing line, the plant can be easily secured to hardscape materials, where it will eventually grow firmly attached.

Microsorum pteropus ‘Windeløv’ is highly adaptable and thrives even under simple conditions. It thrives under low to medium lighting and does not require additional CO₂ fertilization, though it benefits from a balanced supply of nutrients. This makes it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists. Due to its sturdy leaf structure, it is also largely ignored by many herbivorous fish species and remains attractive over the long term.
