GH-GOODSFilter Guard (Fine Mesh)

The Filter Guards are made of a high-quality fine stainless steel mesh and are perfectly suited to prevent the sucking and crawling of small aquarium inhabitants e.g. shrimp or small fish into the canister filter.

Even if the flow on the filter tube is not so high, Shrimp and snails like to crawl into the filter by themselves, because there is food for them. Common suction grids/slots are often too wide, allowing small shrimp and snails to pass easily. Unfortunately, which often happens, even if aquarium inhabitants do not fit through, they are held fast by the pull and die at the intake. This often happens with the popular glassware, the Lily Pipe Inflows, which have only a few slits and where the current or suction is very high, even fish can hang and snails are sucked out of the shell. Really ugly and we definitely do not want that, so we recommend using a Filter Guard (filter suction protection).

The Filter Guard is simply put over the intake pipe and the rubber lip adapts to the tube so that it closes tightly. The stainless steel net is so fine and tight that even the smallest shrimp are safe. Due to the distribution of the suction around the whole Filter Guard, the suction is low and no animals are sucked in and held.

The Filter Guards fit at all common pipe sizes, no matter if plastic pipe, stainless steel or glassware.
The Filter Guards are sturdy, very durable thanks to the stainless steel and can easily be cleaned with a hose brush from the inside, so you can use them over and over again.

Our tip
In hot water, the rubber becomes soft/flexible, making it easier to slide the Filter Guard over the pipe.
Or using a very few Vaseline, that is safe for the aquarium inhabitants. We recommend with every cleaning also to make sure that the rubber end pieces always sit correctly, far enough and tightly on the grid itself, in order to avoid an unintentional slipping out.

Answer from 28 Jun 2019

Moin Manfred,

Dein Garnelenhaus-Team
